In this blog post, we will introduce you to Epoxy Resin in Palestine and the Art behind it. Before you can get started, you will learn what is resin and what are some of the key factors you should pay attention to when working with Epoxy Resin in general.
You will also get a general idea what key products are essential & how to differentiate between other Epoxies systems in the market, to start your stunning Epoxy Resin today!
Epoxy Resins are a two component liquid chemical system consisted of Resin which we refer to it as component A in our industry, and the hardener that we refer to as B.
When the liquid components are mixed (Resin A + Hardener B) the end result is a high finish glossy, transparent, clear, crystal clear solid surface. Which can be used in various art & design areas such as wood working, accessories making, kitchen counter tops, flooring, sculptures, and many more.
The trend of resin art started in the USA, Canada & Australia. In Palestine, epoxy resin is very little known till this date. At Wood berg we are confident to say that we are the leaders in this field, with 9 years of German experience.
If you like experimenting, art, and finding out stuff, you will love working with resin. With Epoxy Resin you can create stunning pieces of art depending on the field you like to experiment resin in, you can make river tables, geodes, coasters, accessories, or save your memorable items. You can enhance the beauty of any canvas painting projects and make them look 3 Dimensional for example!
For advanced users.
Working with Epoxy Resin is not complicated as it's advertised to, but it needs special care when working with it.
For our Epoxy Resin Systems, which are all suitable for many applications such as wood working, accessories, geodes, coasters, painting and many more ideas.
The mixing ratios are 100 A : 50 B for Ultra Clear Epoxy Resin.
The mixing ratios are 100 A : 40 B for Crystal Art Epoxy Resin
Example: 500 g Resin(A) : 250 g Hardener(B).
Ratios must be precisely added, as it works best with our product and that's why you need sensitive digital scale.
How do I know amounts of Epoxy resin I need for my project? Use our online resin calculator.
Adding more hardener to the resin, will speed up the hardening process. But it will back fire in heating and probably make your project crack, break or change it's colors.
Adding more resin to the hardener, will slow the hardening process, and it may last more than 3-4 days, or even never harden.
That's why we recommend using the advised mixing ratios for each product.
Compound (A)Resin & (B)Hardener must be mixed very well for 2-3 minutes before pouring it in your project.
Resin is a viscous, sticky substance that hardens completely at room temperature in a given time. Therefore, you should take care to protect your furniture and clothing from resin stains. On the other hand, precautions must also be taken to protect your health. Even if you use a resin that has been certified as non-toxic and harmless, resin can cause skin irritation if it comes into contact with the skin.
It is therefore important to wear disposable nitrite gloves and long-sleeved clothing. In addition, you should refrain from eating and drinking in the immediate vicinity of resin. Smoking should also be avoided, as synthetic resin is partly flammable. In addition, a respiratory protective mask is recommended when heating paint / synthetic resin, as this is not completely harmless.
Mix only as much resin as you really need. Use for resin, which you do not need immediately wide vessels. Especially metallic colors develop a lot of heat together with resin. The warmer the room temperature, the faster the resin starts to “boil”. If you notice that your resin is hard and very hot in the cup, you should pour it onto a foil. Because you can’t process it anyway and it can cool down again. On hot days I recommend that you do resin work in the morning or move it to the cool cellar.
The formation of air bubbles in the resin cannot be avoided. If you stir your cast resin slowly and heat up the cast resin briefly in between, the bubbles should not be a problem. Heat will cause the bubbles to rise to the surface and burst. Heat the resin on a painting surface regularly with a hot-air dryer or better still with a butane torch.
Keep the heat source about 10 cm away from your Epoxy Art and move the torch in fast movements over the painting. Otherwise the resin will start to boil and it will clump. If the resin is colored white, this can be seen by the fact that it turns yellow. If this happens to you, you have to remove the clumped resin from the surface and pour it again.
The drying time depends on the room temperature and the type of resin used. When using our epoxy resin products at a room temperature of 22° Celsius you have about 15-20 minutes working time until the drying starts.
Resin should be cured after 24 hours, and we recommend not to work again with your pieces until 24 hours has passed.
As you can see, the production of an Epoxy Resin project is quite time-consuming and requires a lot of preparation. But if you hold a successful resin Artwork in your hands, you will see: It was more than worth it!
For beginners, I can definitely recommend attending a resin course. There you will learn to understand the technique from the ground up – with all its peculiarities and precautions. You will be accompanied step by step through the individual phases: From preparation and design to cleaning and post-processing.
We have free 30 minutes courses for all of our customers, along side to basic YouTube videos we have on our channel -> Woodberg Youtube Channel
Have fun experimenting with resin!
