"You may have heard about the amazing properties of Gysmonite, or perhaps you haven't heard of it before and want to compare it with other materials in the market."
We have compiled a small comparison guide below to help you understand how jesmonite differs from other similar materials in the market.
Let's start by understanding what gypsum is...
From building ornate structures to home decor, jesmonite has quickly become the material of choice for artists, craftsmen, and makers around the world.
The system consisting of two parts includes a powder Powder metal and a liquid resin. They are mixed together and then poured into a mold.
"Gismonite is one of the most environmentally conscious options when it comes to resin and epoxies as it contains no solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The end result is a final piece that looks like smooth stone."
Lightweight and durable, and can be adapted using decoration, pigments, metallic effects, and techniques such as terrazzo. Typically, creations of Jesmonite AC100 and AC300 are ready to be removed from the mold in just 15-30 minutes, making the casting process quick and enjoyable!
The difference between Giesmonite and Epoxy resin
"Much like the Gismonite, the popularity of resin resin has grown significantly over the past few years in the world and Palestine."
The positive aspect of resin is that it provides a more transparent effect than gypsum. You can add colors to the resin in the form of pigments and mica powder to create transparent and shiny pieces.
While working with Gysmonite does not produce transparent pieces, but rather colored ones according to your choice (the base color of Gysmonite is white).
The downside of resin is that it can take 24 hours to cure, compared to Jesmonite AC100 and AC300, which take 15-30 minutes to fully cure.
This makes the working time with resin much longer than with gypsum, which is something to consider if you plan to sell ready-made pieces (distributions, coasters, etc.).
Another consideration in the comparison is the composition of the environmentally friendly jesmonite materials, as all of its products are solvent-free and do not contain volatile organic compounds, making it the best choice from an environmental perspective.
The difference between gypsum and cement
Think of jesmonite as cement but more creative.
However, when we think of cement, we might think of a gray sidewalk or a dilapidated road. Of course, you can be creative with cement, but gypsum is much easier to work with and much better at achieving vibrant pieces and colors that you can't achieve with cement. Additionally, gypsum AC100 (for creative artistic work) is a strong, lightweight product and is silicone mold-friendly compared to cement.
The cement is made for outdoor work that will bear high weights when used, and we compare it to the material gypsum AC730, and even in this comparison, the AC730 product is lighter, waterproof, and does not deteriorate over time like cement.
Even with fast-drying cement, the curing time for the cement is still 24 hours. This is much longer than the 15-30 minutes compared to AC100 and AC300.
"Also, gypsum is easier to carve and sand compared to cement in its various forms."
"Cement is not ideal if you are impatient like us, and are looking for stunning pieces!"
The difference between gypsum board, Turkish powder, and plaster.
"Gypsum and Turkish powder are the closest alternatives to Jesmonite AC100, AC200, and AC300, as each of these systems relies on gypsum like Jesmonite, and they require a slightly longer time to cure, taking between 40 to 55 minutes to set."
"But unlike gypsumonite, gypsum and Turkish powder are very brittle and can easily crack, and the final product is not as strong as gypsumonite."
There are also no types of gypsum that are water-resistant, while gypsum comes with water-resistant options and external factors to give you a wider range of casting options such as outdoor plant pots, dishes, coasters, distributions, and more.
Conclusion
The best and most effective materials for use in artistic and manual work are gypsum and epoxy resin, as resin is more effective for transparent works, while gypsum is more effective for colored works, terrazzo techniques, and projects that we want to complete as quickly as possible.
We hope we have helped shed some light on how Jesmonite compares to other materials you may have seen or heard about, but if you have any other questions, please leave them in the comments below.
